So... I'm 39, pushing 40 in March. And honestly...although largely due to some handicaps I've had since I was five, I haven't done anything important with my life. It's just one long, daunting struggle to eke out survival, and take what downtime I can between monumental tasks. There's lots more I'd like to do, but none of it is technically important; it's mostly comprised of luxury activities and tasks like writing a novel, recording an entire album or several...things like that.
There's all this talk that goes on by various people about God's plan for them, or their purpose in life and how everyone has one.
I'd like to know exactly how and where one divines one's purpose in life. So far, I haven't found mine. If I have, I either managed to ignore it accidentally, or I've fulfilled it without knowing. (Which actually, I've always wondered...if we're here to do something, is our time up immediately after we're done, or do we get to hang around and enjoy the world a bit after?)
But seriously... I'd love to know if people think that those that know their purpose in life are presumptuous to assume so, just plain out to lunch, or if they could possibly legitimately know what their calling is.
What happens if you never "receive" a calling, or don't manage to fulfill your purpose even if you do realise your calling? Is your life then a null sum experience?
Ahh, the questions that keep one awake at...well,bedtime. It's technically a few minutes of 8:00am, so it's not exactly night. Well, it's not physically night, but it's my logical night. Anyway...it's stuff like this that nags at me--on a good night, when material world stuff isn't so bad that I'm stressed silly.
So, what's your opinion, folks?
When you helped us to improve our new web site it was obvious that this is definitely a big part of your calling.
