Wouldn't
There are times in our lives
when we just wouldn't do
the things we need to do
To open up,
to share our fears and hopes and dreams
There are places in this life
where we just shouldn't go
where angels fear to tread
What cruelty
of life's injustices and pain
Hermetic heart,
that's what we learn to forge
They take us young,
and snuff out all the love
and caring we would know
For our own good,
at least that's what they say
They fill our heads
with fear and bile and hate
And what they wouldn't tell us
is that it's all a bloody lie
and life never had to be this way
There are times in our lives
when it just wouldn't do
to keep our outrage caged
Keep it quiet,
'cept silence only feeds the dark
There are those in our lives
we wouldn't want to lose
for fear of so much pain
We stay silent,
and they never know how much they mean
When what they wouldn't tell us
is that they wish that we would speak
and stand up for the things we believe
Moral outrage
at the chains we're forced to wear
Appeasing all,
and still it's not enough
to satiate their thirst
for complete control
over what we think and feel
They have our bodies
and still they want our souls
When will we wake and see it,
the tragic puppets we've become?
Serving whims of those we should revile
Would you want to live this,
if there was a better way?
I wouldn't, and wonder why would you?
