Why I got Ordained

  • Unlike many on the site, I did not "plan" my ordination, nor did I feel a calling... I didn't have any family members getting married, or friends...

I work with a lot of paranormal investigation groups, and on one joint investigation, the other team leader had mentioned that he was an ordained minister and had that as his email signature...

That started my curiosity... before I became who I am now and what I believe, I was baptized Mormon... I still hold some of that religion inside, despite my feelings about it... So, to me, being an ordained minister meant years of schooling and an actual brick church...

I logged onto ULC and clicked on the "become ordained!"... I had no idea what to expect, and I wanted to see how this guy actually became ordained, what it took...

I figured I would have to at the least attend some kind of class or pay a fee... I filled in all my information and clicked the submit button... and.......

WHAMMO! "You are now an ordained minister with ULC!"... I laughed.... hard... those who are close to me understand my feelings about religions and churches in general... and this was the furthest thing to me...

But now, it has grown on me... I read about it, figured out I could actually provide my own insight into life... etc...

I ordered my certificate and now I am just another face and personality in the forums... BUT I am learning constantly... even though I am stubborn in my views... I do not allow my stubborness to close of the chance of learning something new everyday... and boy have I!

I am more tolerant now, than I ever was... and I actually find myself more at peace... funny...

I am still on the fence about whether or not to do marriages, or even blessings, etc... we shall see what this future holds for me... but in a nutshell... I became ordained by accident... or did I?

Rev. Michael Winstead That last part is pretty deep. Maybe it was fate if you believe in that sort of thing. I haven't been to church in quite some time due to the fact I don't generally like how most of them are run and I feel confined in the building.

Rev. Walter Rosenthal Similar for me as well. I find much more spiritual guidance and growth outside of four walls. It's my relationship with people and nature that connects me to God.

Reverend Wendy Christine Allen Your story is basically the same as mine, even right down to the fact "I was baptized Mormon... I still hold some of that religion inside, despite my feelings about it..." I'm a 5th generation Mormon...I devoted 27 years of my life to the church, and was ...  more
