Tin Man
Eyes cold as steel
Perhaps a shield
What kind of dark secrets
Do they yield?
Did someone hurt you long ago?
Did they break your heart?
Did they steal your soul?
Leave you with an empty space
And within your mouth, a bitter taste
Strong character, undaunted faith
Yet you keep intimacy at arms length
A sense of humor hides the pain
Will you ever learn to trust again?
Pick up the pieces one last time
Surrender your heart
Without reason or rhyme.
