This week I have been deeply troubled by the terror attack in Southern Israel. It was a multi-stage attack on two cars and a tour bus. 8 people died and many more were injured. My first instinct was to pray for the souls of the deceased and for comfort for their families. Not long afterward, my spirit drifted toward vengeance and what could be done to crush those who would take innocent life so wantonly. I have worked diligently to turn my heart toward forgiveness, but images of the victims' last moments have prevented me from finding the higher path.
Tonight, I have found solace. In the Old Testament book of Nahum (which I admittedly do not read frequently) verse 2 states, "God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wath for his enemies."
So whether your tradition calls it Karma, or God, or Shiva, or the Universe, the bad guys will get their comeuppance and all will be balanced once again.
This brings me great peace.
Shalom.
