The Truth Shall Set You Free

  •     “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18.

“Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is totally inadequate to the government of any other.” -John Adams.

“If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. Verily I say unto you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free, indeed.” -John 8:32, 34.

I often read articles in the newspapers and hear people on the streets all asking the same question, “How is it that our great Nation has so lost its way?” “How is it that the country which once led the world in education and industry and defeated the evils of Nazism and Communism has sunken into the depths of economic recession and is on the verge of social collapse?”

Winston S. Churchill once said, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”, and indeed there is a simple historical lesson that we are totally ignoring and it is the reason why our country is suffering...we have turned our backs on God and morality.

Like petulant children, we have spurned our Heavenly Father and His wisdom. We have replaced God with an oppressive socialist Government, we have replaced morality and righteousness with political correctness and cumbersome laws. We think that we know so much better than those who came before us, that we ignore the lessons taught to us by our forefathers.

Let us examine the book of Isaiah. It chronicles that in that age, the people of Israel had become immoral and started turning their backs on God and morality. God warned them that if they continued on that path that their society would be destroyed and tried to reason with them.

Civilization can only exist if the people in it are moral. It is impossible for the state to legislate good behavior. True freedom comes from God, and those wise enough realize that true religion is not oppressive, but actually frees a society from burdensome laws and political processes.

Consider if you will, the thousands upon thousands of regulations and laws that our Government has imposed upon us. Yet, even with all these restrictions and controls, there is still crime and our society is still suffering a myriad of ills. In response, our Government passes more and more laws, and our freedoms become more and more restricted.

Contrast that with the ten simple commandments which God gave His people long ago. Our loving Savior, Jesus Christ, further simplified those commandments into two simple rules; 1. love God with all your heart, and 2. love your neighbor as yourself. (the Golden Rule principle) If we follow these simple tenets, no further regulations are necessary.

If people are amoral and selfish, they cannot be free, and they require an oppressive and tyrannical Government to control them. No matter how much the State tighten its controls, eventually society collapses into chaos.

A moral and God-fearing people on the other hand, require little or no Government to control them, because they have an inner moral code which governs them. Their beliefs compel them to confront evil, and be honest and industrious. Their neighborhoods flourish and their country quickly becomes a light unto the world, like the United States once was.

Our Heavenly Father is the very author of the freedom we so love and desire. He could have created Man as a simple beast ruled by a set of instincts, like the lesser creatures in Nature. Yet, He wants us to choose His way of our own free wills and live in love, peace and freedom. We need to embrace Him and His wisdom and turn our backs on political correctness and secular society. Only then can the United States of America truly be the “land of the free, and the home of the brave” once more.

radar pangaean I couldn't disagree more with the basic premise. What made this country 'great' was our economic clout, not our blind allegiance to a specific religion or god. Corruption and injustice are not new to the US, as we've gone through periods of robber barons ...  more
