Thought I would post this to explain my view of religion/spirituality. I grew up in a Christian home. My father was Catholic and my mother was Lutheran. I was baptised as Catholic but joined my mother's church when I was in the 4th grade. I went through Luthern Conformation in the 8th grade. In high school I frequently attended a Penticostal church. I was married in a Lutheran church and also taught Sunday school. After the death of my father, I began to learn that I am part Native American (actually Micmac from Canada). I began to learn of native spirituality and more "earth-based" religions. My wife was also raised in a Christian home, but in her adult life practices Wicca. We now have formed our own "religion" called DANU which is a blending of various Christian, Native American, Shamanism, and Wiccan beliefs.
Our core beliefs are:
There is a Creator who created the universe and all its aspects
We honor and worship the Creator through symbolic aspects, including God, but more specifically as Father Sun, Mother Earth, Grandfather Sky, and Grandmother Moon, depending upon the attribute we most want to symbolize.
Everything has a spirit (people, animals, the rocks, trees, etc)
All religions have something to teach us and should not be discounted.
