Religion, I've come to the realization that if people would let go of their fear and worry about the unknown and what is strange to us that we would realize that most religions were created by ancient, un-evolved minds as a way to answer unanswerable questions as to why mankind exists, and to subjugate the masses through fear and guilt. If people would stop dying for conformity and for one second sit back and look at all of the problems religion has caused, we might actually get somewhere without some ancient book governing our lives.
Religion is a simple word that divides humanity in several groups. It is the claim of many influential Christian and Jewish theologians that the only genuine basis for morality is in religion(Nielsen 13). The morals and beliefs of children are greatly influenced by their home life. It is sad how children grow up, not able to research into their beliefs, but conform to the beliefs that have run in their families for generations. Not many children break away from the traditional religion in their family because it has been practiced and influenced for many years.
What are the functions of religion. Is it possible to be religious and accept the teachings of modern science. Based upon my opinion and research I believe that it is not possible to be religious and at the same time, accept the teachings of modern science. As explained in the two questions below, the idea of a religion is to seek the answer to the meaning of life, and after death, live in an eternity with their God. What is religion. Each person's definition of religion is different. Each person's faith is different. This is a question that has been asked for centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared beliefs who feel their life has purpose or meaning.
This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come from outside of themselves, as well as within. Creationism is the belief that everything that we see around us today was created by a God or Gods in order for people to live a life of purity and to be faithful to their corresponding God. Those that believe in a higher being then have a category of their own. First there are those who have monotheistic views.
Religions with a monotheistic view believe in only one God only and believe that he is the only true creator and that the people should obey that God and forsake all other Gods.Religion is defined into three main parts: 1. beliefs and worship: people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life, 2. System: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine and 3. Personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by. The True Meaning of a Religion can be found almost everywhere around us, influencing ones lifestyle and surroundings much more than we are aware of. Often becoming a huge element of society in several areas of our lives. Though some argue one is born already knowing their religious faith, classifying religion as something that cannot be learned but more as an inner spirituality present at birth. Individuals have the choice of whether or not to associate with a religious group; however, even though the membership implies a general compliance with the group's purpose and beliefs, members may not always agree one hundred percent of the time.
The particular religion sets forth to promote its mission, while denouncing an individual or different view or opinion. The group does not care what each individual thinks…it is more so the collective purpose that religion facilitates. In "But This I Can Believe," by David Brian Winter, Winter says, "It is possible to be a Christian, to hold the full, orthodox, biblical faith, and yet reject a view of the Bible that sets it over against science and reason… Christianity, on the other hand, is very much alive (sadly, not fulfilling Voltaire's prediction) and continuously working towards a new order of theocracy in America. The Christian tries to force secular law to conform to the grotesque morality of the Old Testament and its vindictive and childish god, while praising the nihilistic slave morality of the New Testament, laboring endlessly so that rational man must live in a society governed by the most irrational and stupid of laws and customs drawn from the most irrational and contradictory mythological volume compiled by man.
MY Religion was a small part of my family when I was young. I remember getting dressed in a pretty dress and jelly shoes every Sunday morning. Attending a small Baptist church located in the country on a windy, dirt road was our assumed religion. Sometimes my mother and I would go or my favorite sister would take me. However, when my mother would take me and my sisters, there were instances when my mother would flee from the church to the van, for what reason, then I did not know. Of course, I would run only to find her to be in the van with tears streaming down her cheeks and smoking a cigarette.
