Just a random thought, feel free to chime in in comments if you like with your perspectives.
Water is not aware of itself, nor is iron aware when it rusts. Self awareness, or sentient sapience, is completely unneeded in chemistry and therefore also biology. So how is it we know there is even an us to talk about?
Some have argued that it is an illusion, but that's cyclical.. for an illusion to work there must be something to be fooled.
Religion and philosophy deal with this very question, Descartes offered once "I think, therefore I am." But what is the I in that?
Soul, Spirit, Ghost.. call it what you will, but it's existence is clear even if unprovable by modern scientific standards (by definition any evidence of Self is anecdotal ).
So, It exist, I exist, so the next logical question is .. why?
