Karma: It's not what you think. A Suzanne Ranu Blog!

  • Since Sue has spoken to many admin and can't seem to get an answer as to why her blog feature isn't working, I am posting this blog for her, as a request. You may all respond to this blog through comments, however remember this is a blog by Suzanne Ranu, and not myself.

Karma: It's not what you think.

There's a widely believed misconception on what exactly karma is. I often hear people say things like "watch out for karma" or "karma's gonna get you." And my personal favorite when something bad happens- "Well that's karma.......bitch." For some reason we have this belief that karma is if you do something good something good will happen to us. Not exactly, but maybe. It's a little different and actually a pretty simple, and scientific, concept.

It's the law of action and reaction. What you do, even on a small scale, causes a reaction. Sometimes that reaction can directly effect you-what we generally think of karma as. Most of the time, however, it is simply that our actions cause a reaction-somewhere, somehow, and it's usually not visible to us. We just need to trust that it's working, because it is.

Here is one example. If I go out today and pay for someone's coffee in the store maybe they go buy their coworker lunch. Maybe that person goes and cooks a special dinner for their family. This scenario shows exactly how karma works a good action causes another good action causes another good action.....etc. This can also work the other way a bad action causes a bad action causes another bad action.

The visual example of this would be picturing everything we do like throwing rocks in a pond. The waves created from the rock are karma. Those waves go out in every direction, and sometimes they come all the way back to us a wash the sand from our feet or ruin our suede shoes.
