I can not begin to guess at the number of times this question has been ask of me.
Unfortunately the Bibles used by the modern Protestant faiths leaves this question with no answer, even the Standard KJV that I myself use in my day to day ministry does not answer it.
The original 1611 KJV, which I mite ad was used as the accepted word of God by Protestants until 1885 contains a group of books known as the Apocrypha. In 2ND Maccabees,(one of the Books of the Apocrypha) we can find further insight to this question of " What Happen to the Ark of the Covenant" here. 2ND Maccabees 2:4-5 It was also contained in the same writing, that the prophet, being warned of God, commanded the tabernacle and the ark to go with him, as he went forth into the mountain, where Moses climbed up, and saw the heritage of God. And when Jeremy came thither, he found an hollow cave, wherein he laid the tabernacle, and the ark, and the altar of incense, and so stopped the door. 2ND Maccabees 2:7 Which when Jeremy perceived, he blamed them, saying, As for that place, it shall be unknown until the time that God gather his people again together, and receive them unto mercy.
I do not claim for one moment that this is the answer, I offer it as another possibility to the question.
