'They're killing black people' !!.
Black American seeks refugee status in Canada....
Has it gotten this bad in the U.S.? A black New Yorker is pleading to Canada to accept him as a refugee, saying cops are "killing black people."
Kyle Lydell Canty, 30, told a refugee board hearing on Oct. 23, according to a CBC report: "I'm in fear of my life because I'm black. This is a well-founded fear."
He cited recent high-profile cases such as Eric Garner and Michael Brown, two black men who were killed by police in recent controversial arrests.
Canty says he's got his own legal background to prove the dangers, citing several outstanding warrants that have now painted him as an outlaw.
At the refugee hearing in Vancouver, Canty reportedly showed a clip of a run-in with cops in Salem, Ore., where he was arrested for trespassing. He said he was using the bus station's free Wi-Fi for a couple of hours.
"I got bothered because I'm black," he said, according to the CBC. "This is a history of false arrest. My name is ruined because of the false arrest."
While he didn't provide other details to the hearing, The New York Daily News found Canty also faces counts of intimidation, jaywalking and failure to appear in court in Tuscon, Ariz.
Canada rarely accepts refugee claimants from the United States. To qualify for refugee status, the applicant needs to prove he is in danger in his own country due to religion, political opinion, being a member of a particular social group or due to race.
Canty, who reportedly intended to visit Vancouver for a short trip when he crossed the border in September, doesn't plan to go back to face the charges.
"They're consistently killing black people, it's documented," he told the CBC. "I'm in fear of my life. I already know the outcome."
Canty has been living in a Vancouver homeless shelter while he awaits the refugee board decision.
