One of my clients while at an AA meeting stated that he felt that the reason GOD had waited so long to bring him out of his troubles in life and bring him to the program was that GOD had waited because he ( my client ) was stupid.
No one at the meeting chalenged his statement and the statement it's self cut me like a knife.
When it was my turn; I looked into the air thinking for a second and then ...said; To make a great stew you need to let the pot simmer; Then I looked directly at my client, directly into his eyes and spoke only to him.
I said; HE didn't wait because you are stupid; He was letting you simmer.
Then I addressed the rest of those in attendance.
I said, I know these guys don't see it themselves many times because of the sickness; but these guys are great, they are teachers.
Untill I come to work with these guys; I was basicaly an idiot.
I didn't understand them or what they go through on a daily basis. These guys have taught me how to be human, they have shown me how to be humble.
These guys are so much more than they ever realized.
Later that eening the client whom I had rebuked come to my office and thanked me.
He says no one ever said anything like that to him before and it made him feel so good about himself for the first time in his life.
Don't ever feel that GOD waits to answer you because your stupid, slow, unworthy, or hopeless.
GOD is letting you simmer.
Why; Because HE wants you to be great
