The Ancients tell of a "Great Spirit" and with the eyes of an eagle we are more aware. We observe the truth of the south wind, we see the breeze from the east, we contemplate the western zephyr and our vision reminds us of the approaching tempest from the north.
My Grandfather told me of a white man who came with a "Great Cross" proclaiming love for all. They told him it was an eternal love or all of the "Great Spirit's" Creation and creatures. This white man claimed that another man who was GOD died for justice, love, redemption, and forgiveness, for all people who believed in him and in his Father and in the Holy Spirit. Then, this same white man stole the land of my ancestors. He murdered my Grandfather’s family, he had his way the women of our tribe and placed us in a land of their choosing. They declared their own justice, saying it was a way for our redemption because we were heathens. They claimed to do this in the name of love and then forgave themselves for creating a place of Hell were we are still forced to live.
“Great Spirit” when will Your chosen people see the redemption of your love? When will Your justice be found again in Your living waters of Creation? How do we find forgiveness for this ‘white man” who shows a love that is not what Your “Great Spirit” teaches? This “white man” has no eyes like the eagle. He continues to murder in the name of love, and justice. He only seeks a redemption that puts Your creation, Your creatures and even himself back upon the cross of death that is within the circle of life. Oh “Great Spirit” open the eyes of the blind, free the oppressed, return us to the land of our ancestors so all people can live in Your promised land. Crucify the arrogance of this “white man” once and for all. So that Your chosen people can be free to walk in the lands of Your truth, Your love, and Your justice!
The Ancients also tell us that every creature is important to this Creation. Therefore, I must offer “Grace to the flea that rides the back of the rat. I must offer gratitude for the snake that eats the rat of vengeance. I am obligated to seek wisdom in the eagle that eats the snake of hatred. I see that I Am the “white man.” By my actions, I have put my vision into the eyes of Your eagle declaring my justice for others. This is a justice that I truly deserve. Oh “Great Spirit help me to observe the truth of the south wind, to see the breeze from the east, to contemplate the western zephyr and recognize Your vision in the approaching tempest from the north.
