A MINI SERMON THOT
There was a time when Dad would say
My dear child even leprechauns pray
But then, I thought, why would luck need be
If the little green men would be on their knee
My child the questions you ask must sway
Even a teacher every day
For when your mouth opens out it comes
Can't you stick to chewing gums
My eyes welled up and down my head
For this is what my father said
But just as quick I asked again
Why Daddy why then he answered with a grin
Just because was his quick quiet retort
Just because was his only resort
So thought he'd won and thought I'd lost
Then came the question, " But why " for naught
TODAY MY DAD'S IN HEAVEN I THINK
TODAY HE'S THERE READY TO WINK
EVERY TIME I THINK OF A WHY
I NOD AND LAUGH AND LOOK AT THE SKY
CAUSE NOW I AM DEAR DADDY'S AGE
AND I AM NO LONGER STUCK IN THE CAGE
OF WANTING TO KNOW WHEREFORE OR WHERETO
JUST WANTING TO LOVE AND HAVE THINGS TO DO.
AMEN.
PEACE, MOTHER NANHI (St. Patty's Day, 2010)
