Today marks the beginning of FIRE PREVENTION WEEK (Oct. 8-14, 2010) commemorating the GREAT CHICAGO FIRE of 1871 which left over 100,000 homeless, killed hundreds and burned much of the real estate in the city. With wooden bridges and wooden structures the fire spread rapidly and panic set in quickly as people desperately looked for places to be safe. The clean-up was a major challenge.
WHAT REMAINS FOR US TODAY, in addition to preventing physical fires is a clear reminder that the best way to STOP the spread of FIRES, HATRED, RUMORS, etc. is to make sure they don't get started IN THE FIRST PLACE. All of us as citizens and as members of this international and interreligious network are equally responsible for the fate of everyone here.
Spread a little LOVE today and reach out to anyone who still seems to be confused by rumors or simply discouraged by recent misinformation. You can always go to the SOURCE of ALL COMFORT by whatever name you call the Higher Power and SOURCE of WISDOM that prevents ignorance to obtain the COURAGE you will need to strengthen our bonds here as mutual beneficiaries of TRUTH. Together we can all help each other in this way and by doing so reinforce the INTEGRITY of the MONASTERY and OUR ORDINATIONS both legally and spiritually as well as displaying the beauty of the positive relationships all of us have worked so hard to foster here.
Peace to All,
ELDER MOTHER NANHI
