CELEBRATE SHAMPOO DIVERSITY

  • " Celebrate shampoo diversity and the unity of clean hair ! " This is a quote from a posting I made earlier today in response to another minister's post.

Another minister here took it as an insult due to their personal perception and interpretation of my comment. I support their right to express their opinion on this matter. Based on the fact that there are technically over 15,000 members here we are bound to insult the sensibilities of another on a regular basis due to differences of experience and perspectives that arise from them. It is inevitable.

Sometimes people will tell us that they take offense at our statements, sometimes not...but when they do it is important not to brush it off. This simple explanation will never erase the fact that another was insulted by my statement. However, I do hope that anyone who has further concern will give me the courtesy of reading this short blog to provide further context to my statement.

Its intent is to explain my personal experience and the joy I receive every day from living in a household where discussions about hair type and maintenance are part of our daily interaction. My husband is African-American, Cherokee, Jewish, etc. I am Irish, Jewish, Cherokee, etc. Our children AND their hair types are a combination of all of these. As a result we have experimented with thousands of hair care products. NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL.

THE ONE SIZE FITS ALL concept that is part of many persons affect my family in much the say way as talk of hair and skin types. You may not have this experience or make this analogy but I do. My daughters (as well as myself when they were young) have often been approached about how to care for and fix their hair. These gestures are often unsolicited and come from total strangers.

Hence our family's tradition of CELEBRATING SHAMPOO DIVERSITY. I sincerely hope that this blog will give others some food for thought about the joy of unity that needs to peacefully co-exist with diversity. We cannot all blend in.

Celebrating Diversity is a fantastic way to

    CREATE UNITY.

I LOVE YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE.

WILL YOU LOVE ME FOR WHO I AM

without trying to fit me into a spiritual mold for the purpose of creating a UNITY FROM ONE SIZE FITS ALL?
