JUST BEIN' MYSELF

  • HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND WHY I AM HERE...if anyone else tells you otherwise...its just how they see me through their eyes and in the context of their own experiences.

My hubby and I have been members here for 2 years. A bit of serendipity and synchronicity brought us here. Like many others who came here, I felt an early calling in life to ALL that is spiritual. I was raised in a multicultural home. Mom spoke 3 languages. Dad spoke 28! We had an in-home translation business and many visitors. My early exposure to many different people and cultures made me even more curious than my already inborn outgoing personality. I also learned to discern and cherish the common ground that people share and always sought to see that everyone is treated with equal respect and fairness. My Mom used to say, " to have a friend, you have to BE a friend. "

I have worked as a therapist, social worker, professor, museum curator, music and environmental educator, security officer and investigator, freelance translator and salesperson to name a few of my adventures. I have some paper degrees that opened doors of opportunity but what I live by the most are the lessons I learned from the SCHOOL OF HARD KNOX.

I have spent the last 10 years of my life assisting my hubby to get back on his feet and back into the work force after a near-fatal accident. Five years ago, due to nerve damage sustained in the accident, hubby lost his sight and had to learn how to do everything all over again...quite a challenge to the whole family. I worked 3 jobs for quite some time to cover for medical and legal fees for hubby and educational expenses for our children. Last spring my son was killed by a drunk driver just before his 26th birthday. That called for even more adjustments to be made on every level of family life.

Now I work only part-time and am semi-retired (emphasis on the "tired" part LOL). I will be doing some work as a docent for a small museum in our area beginning next week while continuing my work as a spiritual counselor and freelance translator of German and Spanish. I am by birth African, Amish, Cherokee, English, French, Irish, Jewish, Moroccan and Seneca to name a few of my DNA markers and cultural influences.

While growing up and raising my children I always lived in a large home with a beautiful garden but we lost that home 4 years ago after hubby's accident. Now I live in a tiny apartment in a very old house, get my food from a community garden/co-op and raise herbs on my kitchen windowsill next to my cactus plant.

MOST OF ALL I LOVE PEOPLE...I now consider my greatest blessing to be my TREASURE TROVE OF FRIENDS whose smiles and LOVE light up my life each and every day.

Love & Peace with Justice for ALL,

    Mom NANHI

HP Tony Mele You are soooo right. We as people are capable of far more than our wildest imaginations. It just lays dormant in most people until there is a need for it:) I love to hear of others lives and experiences.
