I was recently told my tax returns were not "valid" for a certain time period when I was the sole wage earner following my hubby's accident 10 years ago as I had listed my own name first as the "primary" wage earner for that period instead of my hubby. I was also told it was "wrong" to hyphenate my last name on my Social Security records despite the fact that I have been doing that for at least 25 years with my maiden and married names because it "causes confusion". I was advised by the same IRS representative that "changing" the format of your 1040 to list the wife first and using a hyphenated name is also "confusing". Now what kinda crap is that? THE BEST PART??? Now get this: They refiled my forms for me as SINGLE, put an asterisk next to my name and questioned whether I was really married at all stating that "you can't say you are married" because my spouse's name is Leslie and that is a female name !!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE I.R.S.
