WHO I AM AND WHAT I BELIEVE
PART ONE: A (SOMEWHAT) BRIEF SUMMARY
I present this to you of my own free will, in full honesty and honor. I have decided that it is time for me to stand up bravely and show who I am; for if I cannot do so before our assembly who can I tell?
Thanks to the influence of teachers who told me to question everything and to think for myself, this is who I am despite my Pentecostal relatives’ attempts at ‘reconversion’ (don’t ask).
I am a Modern Spiritual Deist with a strong belief in God. (God is, and that is enough for me; all the rest is unnecessary window dressing.)
I am a lover of Monty Python and Douglas Adams.
I am one of Dan Millman’s ‘Peaceful Warriors’ in training and within me Han Solo runs rampant down the hallways chasing storm troopers (he’s my hero).
I relish in Tolkein’s Middle Earth and Lewis’ Narnia.
I am fond of the philosophical writings of Seneca and Marcus Aurelius.
I am a thwarted living history archaeologist.
I have a definite curiosity about UFO’s and the Paranormal.
I am a student of the world with wide interests – many of which my Pentecostal mother does not approve of.
My heroes are Mark Twain, Albert Einstein, Dr. Wolf and Abraham Lincoln – all fellow Deists.
My music reflects a lot about me – Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon and James Taylor rank up there as my favorites even to this day.
This is just the beginning. More will follow later.
