FAITH AND GENETICS

  • I never cease to be amazed at the sheer amount of people, many of them functioning adults claiming to be true believers in a Higher Power, who have been sold and continue to perpetuate this awful misguided idea that we are stuck with the problems we were born with, that we are victim to the same problems and trials that our parents/elders faced, and that there’s little or nothing that we can do about it. This is a boldfaced lie, and a bad one at that.

This particular lie goes something like this:  Because X was born cleverer than Y, X will be more successful.” “Oh, a member of your family has diabetes/alcoholism/cancer; you’ll likely get it too.”  Does this sound familiar? We may even be the ones saying it and not catching ourselves before it slips out of our mouths – and that’s even worse!

This type of fatalistic bleakness does our spirits more harm than any misguided or incorrect teaching any teacher could ever give us. Thinking like this is a guaranteed recipe for failure.

Without even realizing it these ideas will tell you that we can never be great, overcome odds, or accomplish great things. According to these words it’s in your genes to succeed or fail, it’s in your genes to be healthy or sick. The ones who are saying it may not even realize that they’re saying this to you, much less realizing the damage that they are doing to themselves.

Don’t believe it for a second! Don’t fall victim to their lack of faith! The Almighty who made us and all living things never said this! The Creator never told the creation that we weren’t good enough, smart enough, and talented enough! We were each given various gifts and talents and it is up to us to learn to use them and develop them!

I am aware that we are all born with various challenges and the fact that everybody has something that they are more naturally inclined to do.  We all have something about us and this is a notably genetic hand that we were dealt by our ancestors and familial ties.  Things happen in our lives for whatever reason. What matters is what we do with what we are given and how we choose to overcome our challenges.

The ones who succeed in life have a deep seated faith and they got where they were going through hard work, perseverance, determination and sacrifice.  They have developed trust and confidence in themselves, they believe in what they were doing, and they are supported by others who believed anybody can accomplish great things if you focus and create the right environment.

Cellular biologist Bruce Lipton researched and discovered that our genes are largely affected by our ENVIRONMENT.  If we are not nurtured, if we are not trained or taught, if nobody believes in us, we face difficulties when we try to fulfill our God given potential.  It does not help when we are surrounded by negative people who hold us down because they themselves are afraid to rise up to their own challenges.

True success begins with God, continues on in the imagination and the Divine Spark that the Creator placed within the very atoms of all creation. If our spirit is properly motivated, cultivated and fed we can tap into this spark so that it extends into your daily actions, thoughts and habits.

How then do we create this positive environment that trumps genetics?

First, know what you truly want, not what others tell you that you should want.  Use your imagination, ground it in reality by setting goals, and work on your dream.

Another key to help make your reality brighter is to contact and surround yourself with people who will uplift you. You need to talk to the Creator; deepen your faith so that nothing any human can ever say will ever stop you from walking your intended path to your full potential. Learn to love yourself and put some work into your passions.

We also need to spend less time with or avoid altogether anybody who will put us down, who want to poison us with their own fear and their lack of faith.  By listening to them we digest their poison; why would we want that for ourselves? Would you willingly eat poison? No! Our Creator wants better for us!

Lastly, we need to watch what we say, speak or write; we must be sure that we are supportive of ourselves and to others, that we are surrounding ourselves with things that make us feel good instead of things that bring us down.  Don’t be the negative person that tears apart the dreams of others.  We need to uplift ourselves in order to be able to uplift others and when you feed yourself a constant diet of negativity you’re hurting your spirit.

God wants us to walk in the path that is our lives, the path that we co-create with free will and Divine Providence.  If Divine Providence and faith can protect a founding father (George Washington) from bullets then surely it can uplift you above and away from these naysayers who will hold you back.

    Blessings,

    Rev. K Hyler D.D.
