Having studied religion and ethics for 7 years, and worked in ethics (business, non-profit, and government), I would love to hear y'alls comments on several issues I'm working on for a business school class.
1. How does religion fit into the workplace? Everyone has some belief system, some stronger than others. How do you fit your ethics and religious beliefs in the "real world?" Also, how do business founders and managers incorporate their ethics into the workplace without discrimination?
2. Are businesses becoming more ethical because of a global paradigm shift? Or purely because it "looks good" to consumers, employees, and stockholders? Especially of interest is the "greenwashing" of business.
3.How do social networking sites effect ethics? Are people more or less ethical online with people they hardly know? Is it ethical for businesses to "snoop" into people's Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn accounts to see what people are saying while not on-the-clock?
I'd love to hear anyone's opinion on this. Since we are all now ordained in whatever religion we follow, I'm interested especially in non-Judeo-Christian views, but welcome anyone's opinion. Have any of y'all studied ethics, worked in ethics or compliance? Tell me your wisdom!
