The 8 Biblical names of God

  • There are many Names for God in all reaches of every religion known to man. The Christian God is often times suggested to be the only name of God according to Christians anyway however in the original Hebrew Bible there are eight different names that are assosiated with God. The First name of God is the plural form of "My Lord" and translates from Adonai (ah-doe-noy) The Second name is from Exodus 3:14 when Moses askes God for his name. and God responded "I will be who I will be" or Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh (eh-yeh-ah-share eh-yeh) The third name is Gods Justice and it is Elohim (el-oh-heem) The Forth is HaMakom (Hah-mah-comb) which means (The Place) which is refered in context means the place of the world. The 5th is HaShem (Hah-shem) which means "the name" the 6th is Shaddai (shah-die) or "The Almighty" the 7th Yah means "original point which all things come" Last but most important is the term YHVH often read as Yahweh or Jehova and it actually means a few things to start the Y or Yud means the original point which all things come and the H complements Y just as the human intellect takes ideas and expands them. V or vov stands for the 6 central attributes of God and (man) and the fourth letter H stands for hey and means the vastness of everything.

James Ross In the Old Testament knowing someone's name meant to have power over that person, or to be powerful and thus knowing a name in a biblical story had significant importance
