Why do cats purr?

  • Cat's purr meditation:

It has been scientifically verified recently by psychologists in a California university that house cats meditate a large part of their days/lives. Electrodes were hooked up to the cat's brains which determined that the cats being tested were producing electrical pulses in the alpha frequency range at 8Hz (this means 8 cycles per second). It is widely known that this alpha state of the brain waves is associated with a deep meditative state.

I realized that this experiment correlated with my own experience of meditation which I learned from my dearly departed cat named Shadow over two decades ago. Shadow and I would sit together on our couch and each of us would vibrate our vocal chords at the same slow rate which corresponded to the 8Hz alpha state rate as we drifted into a deep meditative state. I have used this method often over the years, especially when I was under stress. It works very well, and can easily be learned. It can be used even when in a stressful situation or a noisy environment. Try it, you'll like it.
