The Lord that is my refuge;

  •  The Lord that is my refuge;

    Introduction:

    The other day me and my wife were heading in to Augusta on Georgia Avenue. When I noticed a man falling down on the road as I passed by, I said to myself “why don’t I just go down the street and turn around.” Instead I found myself stopping, pulling close to the curb as I can get, turned my flashers on and got out. I ran back to the man and got him out of the road. He had blood coming down the side of his face; he was bleeding from his nose and mouth. I didn’t know what to say to the man except help is on the way. I don’t have a cell phone, so I tried to flag somebody down. Car after car passed by me and no body would stop. If that doesn’t take the cake, two ambulances passed by me without stopping. At that time my wife had gotten out of the car, and walked up beside me, somebody had noticed her and stopped. Thank God this lady had a cell phone and called the cops. Now that this lady was there I could move my vehicle. As I turned around to do so some lady slammed into the back of my car. And when the cops got there they told me I shouldn’t have stopped.. When I got home I walked around the park I live in, asking God why, why, why God did you let this happen. I was only following your golden rule. This verse popped into my head, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. I didn’t know what my topic was going to be until Monday night.
    PSALM 46 all

    Psalm 46

    TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN FOR THE SONS OF KORAH, A SONG UPON ALAMOTH.
    1    God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
    2    Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
    3    Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
    Selah
    4    There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
    5    God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
    6    The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
    7    The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
    Selah
    8    Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
    9    He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
    10    Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
    11    The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
    Sela

    EVERY CHRISTAN CAN LIVE A GOOD LIFE BY UNDERSTANDING THREE SIMPLE TRUTHS:

    The truth of His presence;
    The truth of His protection;
    The truth of His provision (or the truth of His salvation);

    The truth of His presence;

    Vs. 1 – 3
    1    God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
    2    Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
    3    Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
    Selah

    We should not fear because our God is continually with us, we His children are always in his presence.

    The truth of His protection:

    Vs. 4 -7
    Selah

    We should not worry about the things that come against us because of His protection.

    The truth of His provision (or in other words His salvation);

    Vs. 8 – 11

    We should thank God every day for what He has brought us through.
