Tax laws

  • I have officiated two ceremonies so far and have three planned for the near future. I have just committed to two more ceremonies at a future tba date. Up to this point I have not charged any fee for my services. Most judges (justice of the peace) around here charge $50 or more. I am thinking of charging $30 in town and $50 out of town. My question is this: How much do I have to accrue in money earned before I have to claim it on my taxes or do I claim no matter how much I make? Also, what form do I use for that? I would try calling the IRS but instead of being put on hold for eternity (lol), I figured I would try here first.

Thanks to anyone who can offer assistance and God Bless.

Christopher Booe Ok....so this would be in addition to money made from my full time job and my wife's part time job filing jointly?

Jennifer Hinch gross....everything...all bundled together...if you are single under 65 you can make $10k/yr without filing...that's how it reads to me, but I am no tax person. An easy way would be to give a shout to a local H&R Block office and see if they can help you?
