Joy, Sadness and Worry!

  • It is with great joy that I can now call myself Reverend!

    I had promised to do the marriage ceremony for a dear friend of mine come the end of what is turning out to be a cold, bitter winter January. This ceremony, however, is a union of love between two as well as a gathering of old friends and will provide emotional warmth that will carry us through the remainder of this nippy season.

    Unfortunately, upon receiving my ordination papers, I see the Storehouse has made an error, attaching "Edward" to my name. Unless the Universal Life Church has the unusual practice of having, as a full title;

    "Reverend Edward" (insert person's name)...

    then this is a mistake. As I am in NY and this document is in error I cannot go down to the clerk's office to complete the process.

    What started out as a humorous mistake is fast becoming worrisome. I have tried contacting the Storehouse three times over the past week but have received no response.

    The wedding date fast approaches, and I can give no answer to the engaged couple on whether I will be able to do the ceremony.

    So I ask of my fellow Reverends on this site; is there anything to be done here? Should I inform the engaged couple that I will NOT be able to perform the ceremony, as my Church will not correspond with me to correct this mistake on this Notarized, Legal Document?

    I had hoped my first blog here would be one that would simply mark the commemoration of my ordination and happy thoughts on what it means. It is a shame that this must even be spoken of.

    Hopefully, my Sadness and Worry will be soon removed and leave only the good feeling of Joy.

    Philip Rose Well I am not sure how I would accidentally write "Edward" in front of my first name.

    I could see a spelling mistake on my part due to a typo, but it would really be the equivalent of my writing "Philip Swashbuckler Rose" when they asked for my na...  more
