Helping others in their time of need

  • Helping others in their time of need

When I was in Basic Training we had to do a fifteen mile speed march which turned out to be fifteen miles one way and fifteen back. We were in full gear which meant we had a heavy backpack and our rifle. During the march the guy next to me (a Filipino named Baptista) started to fall behind and he was ready to give up and quit. I grabbed him and with my weight combined with his I was starting to get tired myself. Another man grabbed him from the other side which took some of the weight off of me and together we carried him until he was able to go on his own. Well the three of us made the whole 30 mile march and when we got back one of the drill sergeants acknowledged us while the others looked indifferent. Later on we were sent out to fight on the battlefield. Baptista and I were near each other when a grenade came near us. He looked at me and jumped on the grenade saving me and a few other men from certain death.

Sometimes in life on our journey down the red road/white path someone next to us may be falling behind getting ready to quit and they may need to be carried until they are strong enough to go on their own. If you are there the right thing to do is carry him/her until their able to go on their own. You may or may not be acknowledged for your deed but Creator knows, you know and the person that you help knows. If another person can help you to carry this person even better. One day you or I may be falling behind ready to give up and it just might be this very person carrying you or me. We are all brothers and sisters and one of the principles of a true warrior is to care for and serve others.
