"You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you." John 15:16.
When we joined ULC, we did so because we were called. Something deep inside wanted it to happen. Same with those of us who went through "proper training" and started "working" for the Lord in a more institutionalized manner than those who "only" got ordained by ULC or a similar church. Both are of similar value: the work of God.
This summer will be the 25th anniversary of my graduation from a Church of Christ affiliated university. I returned home and have been working for World Bible School in my native country ever since, was content editor of a new Hungarian New Testament translation (the Easy-to-Read version), taught in summer Bible camps, led a congregation.
Church of Christ is not recognized in my country as a church. Neither is ULC. So am I any better off with my "traditional" background? Not at all. And I am convinced that it does not matter at all. Jesus did not choose men with institutional religious education. He opted for "simple, everyday" people. He wants an innocent soul with openness and faith. In this day and age probably one with "interfaith", openness and a desire "to do that is good." Rev. Kirby saw that clearly when he founded ULC–well, wasn't the founder rather the Lord himself?
Do you agree?
