My daughter, Kelsie, survived breast cancer 5 years ago. We were all elated. Everyone in the family shaved their heads in solidarity when she lost hers to Chemo.
When she lost a breast and female organs, we felt helpless. There was nothing we could do but pray and love her.
So, when doctors pronounced her cancer-free, it was a real call for celebration. But the joy was not the end of the story.
Kelsie has been in unexplained pain for a couple of years now and has been confined to a wheelchair most of that time. April 2011 she began having seizures. Doctors kept telling her it was in her head but she kept deteriorating. Now we know it's not in her head.
Recently Kelsie has been going up to Mayo Clinic in Rochester for tests. This is one of the best hospitals in the United States. They repeated tests up there that have been done here and added some new ones. We were happy they were being so thorough.
This week's trip she had a PETscan and they took bone cultures from her spine.
We found out yesterday the dreadful reason she has not been able to walk, has such a wide diversity of medical issues and has been having seizures:
The cancer that was in her breast before has returned, but now is in her spine (and possibly her right lung). They spoke about bone cancer.
They were very kind when they told her, there is no doubt about the spine. They plan surgery to get a better bone scan: They have to find out if the cancer is just on her spine or in it. They will also have to biopsy the lung.
We will be told more about the options and prognosis in a few days.
During the first round with cancer, i talked her into trying Cannabis (aka marijuana) because I knew it helped with nausea. She was amazed that it really stopped the vomiting, helped her keep the prescription medicines down, and gave her an appetite.
This time we plan to use it again. It will help with pain, depression and, several research results show, it could even stop or slow the growth of the cancer cells.
My concern is the same as last time, it will make her a criminal in the eyes of the law. I am an admitted criminal so my role of procurrer will not bother me, but can anyone believe it is right to subject a gentle person like her to this horrible prohibition of a plant which God provided and which will help ease her days and nights?
I try so hard to make people understand, but still some are more willing to believe a government that lies to us all the time over scientific research that proves they are lying again. It breaks my heart.
Please, if you still don't understand the controversy over this plant and the people who use it, learn more. Read the studies, examine the research, Give credence to God for supplying us with such amazing medicine.
And please, if you have a spare prayer, I'd be so grateful if you could offer it up for Kelsie.
