A sensorium (plural: sensoria) is the sum of an organism's perception, the "seat of sensation" where it experiences and interprets the environments within which it lives. The term originally entered English from the Late Latin in the mid-17th century, from the stem sens- ("sense"). In earlier use it referred, in a broader sense, to the brain as the mind's organ (Oxford English Dictionary 1989). In medical, psychological, and physiological discourse it has come to refer to the total character of the unique and changing sensory environments perceived by individuals. These include the sensation, perception, and interpretation of information about the world around us by using faculties of the mind such as senses, phenomenal and psychological perception, cognition, and intelligence.[1] (End Wiki)
As long as we're talking about senses, why not use music as a part? I think the group Epica did a nice job on this for us... Please appreciate their lyrics and do feel free to comment.
Much of what is said within the lyrics of Epica's song, "Sensorium" I feel close to being in agreement with, the chief exception being any references to "torment" and "fear". That said, I much expect the author of the lyrics refers more to "other people's fear"... well, such would be the case if such words were mine. Do you personally have torment dealing with life or fear the unknown? How can one fear something that remains unknown? It is all quite wonderful, perhaps in hindsight if not in foresight. The message is, "there is always more...".
It is a very human thing, this sensorium.
"All lies before you", but what is still missing? Where does this sensorium fail? Could I have just as well said, "All before you lies"?
Food for thought. I hope you enjoy the music.
