Awakening The Sleeping Soul

  • I recently had a conversation with a professor concerning the present climate of today's society and its attitude on certain political and secular issues. To my surprise, I couldn't help thinking about each one of my friends who have past away in the past five years. Facing this reality is eye opening, to say the least. After all, each one of us still living has a day and time to meet our destiny; and there is not one religion that can stop it.

Therefore, it continues to baffle me how we as religious followers continue to remain in the dark about our beliefs and notions regarding individual rights and lifestyles. Take for instance, I was asked if I think gay people should be allowed to marry. My response: laughter. Not because I find this matter funny, but because people are actually taking time to think about the sexual orientation of another human being, and deciding if those people have a right to marry; as if, God elected them to be judge over others' happiness.

The question should have been: why are so many Americans' unhappy? Perhaps so many Americans' are unhappy because most of us spend more time concerning ourselves with others, that we nelgect to focus that energy on self. Imagine what you could possess if you relinquished your idealism and negative opinions, which often derive from experience, word of mouth, teaching, and observation. After all,  in many instances, we each conclude opinions on one social matter or another, without really knowing what the root of the matter is.

As a result, we have mass confusion. Kids killing kids. Mothers' murdering sons'. Hate, violence, bigotry, ignorance, and so many other vile afflictions that continues erode the very core fabric of all human existence. Therefore, if we could all stop for one moment and analyze our selves, what we can achieve as a people, would impact the way our atmosphere impacts our lives.

Brothers' and sisters' isn't it time we all grow up and mature spirtually? If not, we will continue to be just as blind and dumb as those who have gone on before us. Let's don't be followers, but doers. In doing so, we will not only change our lives, but the lives of those we come in contact with. May all your blessings flow positively; and may you find peace and light within your tunnel of confusion and darkness. Much love.
