Hebrews 12:14-17
Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter root springing up and causing trouble, and through him many become defiled. And see to it that no one becomes an immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. For you know that later when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no opportunity for repentance, although he sought the blessing with tears.
As the body of Christ, we are urged to pursue peace and holiness together. These are two things that cannot be achieved without love, forgiveness, correction, and hearts that are willing to change. The enemies to this cause are bitterness, resentment, anger, hate, division, envy, greed, etc. Ultimately, our enemy is idolatry, and many times it is our own self that serves as our largest stumbling block. The challenge is to set aside your own interests, and replace that effort toward the good of others in Christ Jesus. You need to do what Esau could not. He could not see straight in the face of hunger, and sold his birthright to his younger brother for a meal on a whim. His birthright was worth much more, yet He could not make the choice that that reflected that truth. What drives your choices? Love, self, or something else?
