1 Timothy 2:1-4
First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people, even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. Such prayer for all is good and welcomed before God our Savior, since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
God values each person’s life beyond our imagining. It’s no secret that each one of has varying opinions on how the leaders of today are doing running our countries the world over. Regardless of how we feel about it, it is right to pray for them and for all people. Whether perceived a friend or foe, they need prayer, and they have no hope of governing with justice, truth, or love without God’s help. As believers in Christ this is a mandate, not so that we bend our own beliefs to match whatever belief our leader holds, or specifically to bend their values to our own. We offer these prayers because God has offered a loving invitation to all people through His Son Jesus Christ. He wants all people to know that they are free to follow Him, and that He alone offers the strength, courage, and love to do so.
