2 Timothy 2:14-16
Remind people of these things and solemnly charge them before the Lord not to wrangle over words. This is of no benefit; it just brings ruin on those who listen. Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately. But avoid profane chatter, because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness,
Paul is urging Timothy to hold to the truth and keep the integrity of the gospel intact. There is also caution to not quarrel about words, because it probably would lead those who are listening astray, or to not receive the gospel. The call to discipleship brings with it responsibility. We must take care and seek the leading of the Holy Spirit as we communicate with other believers, and with everyone – because God’s invitation to Himself is for all. Holy Spirit, lead us and grant us the words to say as You move us to speak the truth in love to those we meet. Your faithfulness is sure! Please lead us to repentance and complete dependence upon You to live boldly where You take us.
