This is my first blog on here! Hopefully, there will be more, but I am in graduate school so I will try during breaks.
I wanted to share an overwhelming emotion I had last Friday 1/1/16. Ordained last December, I have so far officiated eight weddings. Seven of them in Texas and one in Georgia. I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia living there through many years of LGBTQ "issues". Cobb County was probably one of the biggest thorns we experiences in my time, especially the commissioners around the time of the 19986 Olympics. (Google the details if your curious, for I wish to stay cheerful today).
Last Friday, I officiated a same-sex female wedding in Georgia. The first in Georgia as I was visiting for the holidays and accepted the offer. When I go to sign the license, I cried. The license was for Cobb County. It was a God given joy moment. I wasn't bitter or carried hate, just joy. I just graduated with a Masters degree and about to further work on my PhD at Texas A&M Univesity in a week (Go Aggies, but there were LGBTQ issues there too). So, here I am with an Aggie ring on, signing a same-sex marriage license for two beautiful women, to be registered in where else, Cobb Conty, Georgia. To make the moment sealed, I look over an there is my handsome husband of 10 years beside me (who was crying over the wedding song mind you). We were blessed to get marrried in 2006 in Massachuettes, and I am proud to do the same for others.
I was humbled beyond belief and am amazed the path God has brought me, my community, and others.
The may sing God Bless Texas, but God Bless us all !
