Sooo... UNNECESSARY MEMO HERE: Don't breastfeed in church!!

  • I don't know about anyone else, but I've been going to church since I was young enough to not remember it. I fell away in my late teens and twenties for reasons I don't need to get into to here. But I've been going to church for long enough that I know proper conduct when you step through those front doors and into the sanctuary regardless of which denomination you are attending. However, according to ULC blogs their is a major problem with proper modesty and moral conduct when you step inside a Christian church. You can see the article here. Apparently, if you are a Christian Church and you don't allow women to openly breastfeed in public you are a prude, and you hate women, and you are therefore violating their rights as mothers because it might make the men in the congregation uncomfortable.

First of all, I have to say I can't believe how far the Christian Church in America has detoriorated that we even need to have this conversation, but secondly, PERSONAL MODESTY IS A BIBLICAL CONVICTION REGARDLESS OF GENDER!! Men and women are both commanded in the Old and New Testaments to guard their modesty. Even if you disagree with the premise, this is still a fact of Christian thought and therefore should be left alone as Christians have the right to freely practice their religion under the U.S. Constitutition.

However there is still a problem here, and that is the problem of common decency. Breasts on a woman in our society and most other societies around the world are considered "private parts" therefore this form of nudity is considered indecent and unacceptable in most public quarters, not to mention a CHURCH! There is nothing sexist here because although I am a man and perfectly capable of relieving myself next to the nearest tree this is also a form of public nudity and indecency, even though it is a perfectly natural act that all men must engage in at one time or another. Would I be allowed to do this publicly in a church? Definitely not! I would need to go to private quarters designated for this purpose and there is nothing in the world wrong with that regardless of how "natural" my act may be. I don't know what church this woman attends, but I do know from personal experience that most churches have nursuries for women, mothers, and young children, most churches also pipe their sermons into the nursuries so the women are not excluded from the sermon. If this woman's church is really so restrictive perhaps she should be taking up an offering to build a nursery that is child and mother friendly, while attending to the spiritual needs of the women and mothers attending the place as well. I can say with almost 100% certainty the men, the fathers, and the clergy would have no problem with this at all whatsoever. But open breastfeeding is certainly NOT proper conduct in a church sanctuary.

Mystic Angel I Agree! Breastfeeding may be natural but so is taking a dump but it doesn't mean we have to see it!!! (Tell them that next time and if they argue, pull down your pants:)
