It seems like in this world people are working on achieving more and more and looking for the best in everything. The kingdom of heaven is not name brand clothes, beauty salons, no reconstructive surgeries, shoes, jewelry, car, nor physical mansions. While it seems everyone is striving for material things Jesus Christ warned us we are not of this world. What can your soul take with you?
In a study of Moses ben Jacob Cordovero a 16th century mystic of the Jewish Kabbalah he said that one should never take pride in their belongings but should always behave like a beggar. Even if you are wealthy it is to remind you that it is required to have mercy in kingdom of heaven. Cordovero practiced a meditation method called divorce at that time, now we know it as separation from material things or a material world.
It seems to be a part of us that we need to lose the ego, the self-centeredness and engulf ourselves in the love of God so that we can get to and stay in the kingdom of God. Because when it is all said and done God is all there is. I AM THAT I AM. Thank You God!
