Jesus, of all ancestors before us, demonstrated most completely the perfection of the Indwelling Christ, which he declared to be the true nature of everyone. In attaining his high consciousness, he took certain steps, which Divine Science recognizes as follows:
If we would attain spiritually, or even intellectually, we also take these steps. First, we recognize the value of a course of thought and action; then we affirm or become convinced of its importance; we concentrate and make the decision to proceed. Renunciation means giving up old ways, perhaps enjoyable and lucrative activities, in order to have time for the new project. Crucifixion means long hours of study, practice, denial, giving the self completely to the ideal; and resurrection and ascension, attainment of the goal, realization, perfection, illumination.
The New Testament, reflecting the influence of Essenism (Mysticism of our ancestors), ‘uses the imagery of light in relation to spiritual illumination. This applies especially to the Johannine writings (the Gospel of John), though it is not limited to them. “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.” I John 1:5 “What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.” John 1:3-4. These passages affirm that God is light and that we are the children of light; in essence, we are radiant, vibrant, dynamic spirit. Even if we seem to be in the midst of darkness, of ignorance, enmeshed in all sorts of negative experiences, the light is still shining. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” John 1:5
THE THOUGHT OF GOD LIGHTS ME LIKE A BON FIRE AND I ACCEPT MY BIRTH RIGHT OF POWER THAT MAKES ME STRONG IN THOUGHT, WORD, AND DEED.
