And immediately, coming up from the water,
He (Jesus) saw the heavens parting
and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.
The Holy Spirit is like a dove, coming to rest gently on you this day, just as He rested on Jesus at His baptism. He is a Dove to light gently upon you to take away your anxieties. He is a Dove to give you peace. But, it’s not just the feeling of peace you need; you need the Holy Spirit, for He is Peace. Remember the promise of Jesus, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you” (John 14:27). When Jesus sends peace, the Holy Spirit delivers it. When the Holy Spirit comes into your life, receive His gentle presence as a Dove that is gently coming to rest on you.
O Holy Spirit, gently rest upon me to give peace at the center of my storm. Settle my emotions, and become the controlling peace to every area of my life. Bring gentleness to my soul. I yield my feelings to You.
The third Person of the Trinity is like a dove, lighting upon you so carefully that you won’t even feel it until you experience His peace in your life. He is like a Dove; He does not always come with violent manifestations or emotional outbursts. Sometimes He comes with a quiet voice and a whispered conversation. Be still; get quiet; and wait for Him.
Holy Spirit, I receive You. Guide me to be gentle with my words and gentle with my actions. Transform me to be like You. Amen.
