Jesus: Greater Than Solomon
The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment
with this generation and condemn it,
for she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.
Solomon was one of the wisest men to ever live, yet Jesus is Greater than Solomon because Jesus is the source of wisdom. Solomon was wise because He asked God for wisdom. At the beginning of his reign, Solomon confessed, “I am a little child” (1 Kings 3:7). So Solomon prayed, “Give to Your servant an understanding heart” (1 Kings 3:9). Like Solomon, we can ask for wisdom. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all,…and it will be given to him” (James 1:5). If you want to be wiser than you are, learn from the Bible about Christ. The more you know of Him, the wiser you’ll be.
Jesus, I want to be wiser. I will read the Scriptures and will learn more about You. Take away my spiritual blindness so I can see and learn.
Solomon wrote the book of Proverbs, the Song of Solomon, Ecclesiastes, and some of the book of Psalms. He had a reputation of being greater than the wise men of Egypt and of the East, and he was an expert in zoology and botany (1 Kings 4:32-39). His greatest achievement was building Solomon’s Temple, not because of its grandeur, but because God Himself came in a cloud to dwell in it (1 Kings 8:10). Solomon pointed us to Christ, who is Greater than Solomon.
Jesus, no one can be compared to You, for You are greater, wiser, and more glorious than all humans, all angels—everything. Amen.
