and the life was the light of men.
There are all kinds of light—sunlight, moonlight and the light from a fire, candle or light bulb. Satan "transforms himself into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14) who attracts people to sin and death. The original source of all light is Jesus, the Light who is the Light of Men (John 1:4; John 8:12). When people are lost in darkness, Jesus is the Light of salvation that directs people to Heaven. Just as light illuminates the right path so people won’t get lost, so Jesus is the right path to Heaven. Just as a light will keep away dangerous predators, so Jesus is the Light that protects us on our journey. Just as a light makes it possible to read and explore things, so Jesus helps us learn and grow as Christians. Just as light makes us comfortable in the night, so Jesus gives us “the light of life”
Jesus, shine light on me today.
There are several ways to walk in the light of Jesus, the Light of all people. Just as we hold light high to illuminate our surroundings, so we must hold Jesus high for all to see us as Christians. Just as we hold light in front of us to direct our steps, so we must let Jesus guide our attitudes, thoughts and actions. Just as we hold light near so that we can read and learn, so we must let Jesus into our hearts and minds through Bible reading, meditation and prayer.
Lord Jesus, You are the Light of my life. Keep me from getting lost. Keep me from getting hurt. Keep me from the dangers of sin. I will follow Your light. Amen.
Jesus is my Light to guide me safely to God.
