who takes away the sin of the world!
On the banks of the Jordan River, John the Baptist announced to the world, “Behold! The Lamb of God.” For hundreds of years, thousands of faithful Israelites sacrificed millions of lambs—all looking forward to the coming of the Messiah, who would forgive their sins. Because Jesus was the Lamb of God, all the drudgery of sacrifice finally came to an end. Now, every new day should be exciting because Jesus, the Lamb of God, has taken away the sin of the world—including all of yesterday’s mistakes. He has taken away your sins because you believed in Him. Today is a new opportunity to serve the Lord. Thank God for the Lamb who has taken away your sins.
O Lamb of God, forgive me for the willful sins I do, and look deeply to see my repentance. Purge me of the ignorant sins that I don’t realize I do.
Learn to worship the Lamb. Learn to do on Earth what you’ll do in Heaven. Worship should be your passion now, since you will worship once you arrive in Heaven. When you get to Heaven, you will join many others who are worshiping “Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13). In Heaven you will cry out with others, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain” (Revelation 5:12).
Jesus, Lamb of God, at Your name I join every knee bowing and every tongue confessing that You, Jesus Christ, are Lord (Philippians 2:10-11). Amen.
