Doubting Your Assurance of Doubt
Monday, January 6, 2025
Zacharias was performing his priestly duties in the Holy Place inside the Temple when an angel of the Lord appeared and told him that he and his wife would have a son in their old age. His response was, "How can I be sure?" That's a good question. How can we be sure about anything? If we can't be sure of anything, then we can't be sure about not being sure, because doubt requires faith. If you doubt, you're ultimately trusting in your doubt, reasoning, and judgment. Can you really trust yourself, your feelings, or your reasoning? Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us that God's ways are higher than our ways. So, either way, faith or doubt, you have to trust something or someone. Doesn't it make sense to trust God whose ways are above you? Because if you're afraid to believe in something, you'll never live for anything. If you're afraid to trust in what's good, you'll trust in what's not good - you'll trust in doubt. So why put your faith in doubt? Stop putting faith in doubt, and put it where it belongs, with God.
