The Two Loves of The Father

A minister once overheard one of his children admonishing the other saying, "You have to be good, or father won't love you." He called his children in and explained, "That isn't really true. I will love you whether you behave good or bad. When your behavior is good, I'll love you with a love that makes me glad. But when you behave badly, I'll love you with a love that hurts me." If you're born again, your Heavenly Father's love is greater, not lesser, than that of an earthly parent. Thus when you do good, God loves you with joy. When you do bad, God still loves you, but He will discipline you. God loves you either way. Let His love overwhelm your failings and His faithfulness overwhelm your lack of it. No matter where or what, His love for you will be deeper than the waters of the sea and higher than the heights of heaven. But rise up from that sin because He loves you, and because every beloved child wants their father to smile with joy.
