Speak Up For What's Right

  • Always speak up for what's right.

    When we fail to do that, when we are too apathetic to take action to stand up for what we know is right, we allow our world to deteriorate. We've done this before in history.

    Must we continue? NO. Write your representative, organize peaceful protests, write a letter to the editor (yes, they still have those on line and in print). Refuse to purchase products made with earth destroying methods or or ingredients.

    Stop believing it's "their" fault (who are "they"? "They" are whichever slightly different group of humans that you have chosen to be separate from). Why allow political rhetoric or skin color or gender identity or place of birth make any of us "different"? We are all human; species "homo sapiens", supposedly "wise man". Let's try to be as wise as we pretend to be. Our political leaders, our religious leaders, our corporate magnates... are interested in themselves, not the majority of us. I'm guessing this audience is not part of the top 1% of of the population, representing the wealthiest, most powerful, most prominent people in the world.

    When the Nazis came for the communists,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a communist.

    When they locked up the social democrats,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a social democrat.

    When they came for the trade unionists,
    I did not speak out;
    I was not a trade unionist.

    When they came for the Jews,
    I remained silent;
    I wasn't a Jew.

    When they came for me,
    there was no one left to speak out.

    -- Martin Niemoller (1892-1984), Lutheran pastor, theologian

    You've surely heard the "battle plan" of warriors -- divide and conquer. Do not allow us to be artificially divided by those with an unquenchable thirst for power. Understanding, love, compassion, empathy does not separate us from each other or the other animals -- these feelings are innate within all of us. Only human history, dogma, and deteriorating will has caused us to forget what we once knew without being "taught by specialists or superiors".

    We, the people, are the superiors. Lets act like it.

    Gary V. I really enjoy Elie Wiesel, especially after reading his book, "Night." He witnessed his family gassed by Hitler......
