I've been watching the news (admittedly a mistake) and listening to some of the recent ads on TV. Quite frankly I am appalled at the rampant consumerism happening around this time of year. Have we all forgotten what Yule and Christmas is all about. Americans spend billions of dollars on gifts and trinkets that most of them don't need. If all that money were used for things like feeding the thousands of starving children, providing food and shelter for the homeless and taking care of the elderly the true meaning of this time of year would be recognized.
My wife and I will do just that. No presents, no fancy decorations or light shows. Just contributions to good causes. I would urge others to do the same. Trust me, it will make you feel good. Blessed be.
