Support One Another in Times of Need

  • Have you ever felt alone or uncertain? At times, all of us struggle under the weight of a difficult situations. It might be a sin we cannot overcome, a trial that just doesn’t let up, or a need that remains unmet. However, there’s no need to struggle through it alone. We have the support of fellow believers as we bear one another’s burdens through the power of prayer, charity, tithing and the power of the Holy Spirt that dwells within us.

Christians of the early church pooled their resources to help meet the material and financial needs of believers who were in poverty. Turn your Bibles to Acts 4:32-35. "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need."

Paul also displays this concern for others’ welfare in his various letters to growing churches. He knew it was his responsibility to strengthen them even though he was repeatedly undergoing his own hardships.

We can’t wait until life is free from problems before reaching out to others. Let’s face it, that day may never come. Though every one of us has his or her own needs, it’s important to remember we can do all things through Christ’s. So helping one another in times of difficulty is something we should all strive to be committed to as people of faith.

Remember, when we are willing to help a fellow believer, that person is blessed, we are blessed and we’re fulfilling the Lord’s command to love our neighbor as ourselves.
