God Sees the Big Picture...

  • As followers of Christ, we must be careful not to confuse God’s goodness with our own expectations of Him. Many people of faith feel that accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior will make their lives better and easier. But when adversity strikes and it will, they are somehow disappointed. We rationalize this process and say things like, “God didn’t care enough to answer my prayers.” Or, God must not be real because if he was, he would have fixed my problems.”

God is always good, and His promises are always true. When we can’t understand what He is doing, we can still trust who He is. We don't always understand why God works the way He does. But we can be assured that He is always in control. At such times, it’s helpful to remember that God sees the whole picture. He’s always working to accomplish His purposes and not necessarily ours.

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6 not to rely on our own understanding but to trust the Lord with all our heart. Today we have the completed written Word of God as the basis for our trust and security. Everything else we possess could vanish, but God’s Word stands forever and will never change. Every promise is guaranteed by Him according to scripture.

Hebrews 10:23 says; “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” We must hold tight to Christ, recognizing that we have not been promised life without trouble. We need to look beyond the immediate circumstances of our situation and trust God to work out the big picture for our ultimate good.

Like the Hebrews who couldn’t see God’s plan until it was accomplished, we can’t always see what God is doing through the difficult times in our lives. Yet in even our most painful situations, He is teaching us to trust in Him and to believe that He is working for our good.

Remember, God sees the bigger picture. He sees the beginning, middle and the end. Psalm 139:16 says; “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.” We can’t hold God to our understanding and expectation. We must hold fast in our faith, be patient and watch Him work.
