The Al jilwah says, "all the books of those without are altered by them and they have declined from them." I find this to be the case in the simple note of the first commandment strewn about on state Capitol properties nationwide. "Thou shalt not make any graven images." Any means any period. It does not matter if the image is a cross with Jesus, a face of an apostle, crown of thorns, shroud and Turin, the finger of god, or any such manner of item related to even the gospel. No graven image shall be formed and the scripture contradicts itself simply within the first few books of the old testament with multiple accounts. An altar is an image. Both Noah and Abram build altars to god. Moses was commanded to display a bronze serpent to Israel for them to be healed. It does not matter what holiness the image is regarded as if any image is any image. It does not matter if someone has a cross on a church or a statue on a temple. Any image is any image. Period. Likewise the ten commandments state thou shalt not kill, period. It does not give context of murder or war or whether god licenses it or not, the commandment is thou shalt not kill, period. But David kills Goliath, Abraham is commanded to sacrifice Isaac, god floods the world, kills the first born of Egypt and destroys Sodom and Gomorrah, and commands witches and homosexuals and unruly children to be stoned to death. Yet the commandment is, thou shalt not kill.
The bible gives the commandment thou shalt not steal. Abraham plunders a city in rescue of lot, and gives a tenth of his intake to Melchizedek. Yet the bible says, thou shalt not steal.
It is quite evident that the original texts of the bible of which there are no autographical copies left, were modified, as they contain these contradictions and more. Modern Christians follow suit by having manger scenes at Christmas and crosses on churches. People will say it's not the image itself, as long as you recognize the power behind the image and not the image it doesn't matter. The answer to that is not according to the bible, any image is any image. But you cannot possibly follow everything about the bible, but Christians claim this consistently. The truth is that those without, the judeo Christian monotheistic faiths have declined from their own apostles and prophets, and modified their words, and have gone from them.
I don't mean to sound superior like I am authoritative from god by saying what I am. Even the Al jilwah has been modified because it has become public. It follows suit with the command to refrain from worshipping all other gods. I hold my ground by stating that not one religious authority exists from any divine being. Religion is made by man, and is used as a guidepost to point the way. Thus even within satanism, the church of Satan is not the authoritative measure of what a true satanist is. Neither am i to denounce someone who follows the church of Satan.
The best anyone can do is focus on the basic underlying precepts using discretion and the best knowledge possible for their benefit. Even science itself consistently changes and what may be the case at one point may not be entirely the case or not the case at all at another point in time.
We all have to find what motivates us and what is best for our own benefit. What practically makes sense and what is truly morally right according to the process of honoring and establishing life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
What we can surmise from scripture is that there was and maybe is a god who cares enough about mankind to tell us some things about how to manage our lives responsibly. It is wise not to go about killing people. There's really not a need for that. It is wise not to steal, we don't own what isn't ours. It is wise to tell the truth. Even if the truth hurts, and you'll be in for more headaches for lying, so it's better not to do that.
The holy writ of the past is useful for guideposts unless they hinder our healthy growth as human beings. Then if that happens, they need to be discarded.
Hopefully this was able to shed some light on things
